Critical Aggression Prevention System (CAPS) - Training Program Options
Prevention Starts Before the Incident
For any campus, workplace, or facility to fulfill its mission, violence must be prevented, not just managed. Yet most security and safety professionals we speak with acknowledge a hard truth: despite the language we use, many programs are still reacting after harm has already occurred. Many initiatives include the word prevention in their title. But when examined closely, they focus on responding faster once an incident is already underway. Faster response is important, but it is not prevention.
True prevention requires identifying individuals who are on a measurable path toward destructive behavior before they act, while judgment is still intact and outcomes are still changeable. That is the gap most systems fail to address.
A Proven, Evidence-Based Approach to Prevention
The Center for Aggression Management’s proprietary Critical Aggression Prevention System (CAPS) was designed specifically to close that gap.CAPS provides a scientifically reliable method for identifying and redirecting early, observable behaviors that precede assaults, active shootings, and violent acts, as well as more common but equally damaging behaviors such as sexual harassment, bullying, abuse, coercion, and discrimination.
Importantly, CAPS accomplishes this without violating privacy regulations. It does not rely on medical or psychological records and remains compliant with HIPAA in healthcare settings, FERPA on school campuses, and the Civil Rights Act of 1964 in security and law enforcement environments.
By grounding prevention in observable behavior and measurable outcomes, CAPS elevates safety and security programs to the highest level of evidence-based best practices. Without an approach like this, organizations often have no reliable way to know whether their efforts are working until after someone has been harmed.
What Practitioners Say
J. Randy Ryan, District Manager at AlliedBarton Security, explains it this way:“For years, I have presented Active Shooter and Workplace Violence seminars and tabletop exercises. I was always troubled that most of our focus was on actions during and after an incident. The Center for Aggression Management put my mind at ease with the Critical Aggression Prevention System. CAPS is the ounce of prevention that has been missing from the standard approach to workplace violence. The lives saved by using this approach could be countless.”
